Red grapes
Merlot is perhaps the best red wine to serve if you're planning to satisfy most of your guests. It is a good complement to lighter roast meats, particularly fowl such as chicken or duck.
It is also tasty with roast pork and leg of lamb.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape of great character: spicy, herby, and tannic, with characteristic "blackcurrant" aroma. A bold, rich red wine that goes best with heartier dishes such as prime rib, rack of lamb, and any game meats.
